Service
"The Church is a servant community in which those who hunger are to be filled; the ignorant are to be taught; the homeless to receive shelter; the sick cared for; the distressed consoled; the oppressed set free - all so that men may more fully realize their human potential and more readily enjoy life with God now and eternally." (To Teach as Jesus Did, 1972, #28)
What are "YAF Service Events"?
YAF Outreach Events are opportunities for us to get out into our community together, to share the gifts that God has given us, and to learn and grow through our shared ministry. YAF outreach events are both scheduled and spontaneous, and, as with the YAF socials we will get word out about these events via mailings and/or email. (Please see below for events already scheduled: The Thanksgiving Community Meal, Parish Pentecost Picnic, and the Spring Community Meal.) Throughout the year, volunteers from the YAF provide assistance to the myriad outreach ministries of Christ Church including the Garden Committee, Service to Others, Outreach Breakfasts, Loaves and Fishes, and United Ministries.
Want to get involved? Please contact a member of the Service Team.
Thanksgiving Community Meal
The Christ Church young adults sponsor a Thanksgiving meal for those who are in need every year. The meal, to be served in our parish hall, happens before or after the ecumenical Thanksgiving Service. Donations of cooked turkey and pie are requested of the parish members. We also encourage donations from local businesses. YAF help is needed also in preparing and serving the meal.
Parish Pentecost Picnic
The YAF will be leading the picnic for the first time this year. It will be held on May 20th across from Old Christ Church after late service. Bring folding chairs, picnic blankets, and an empty stomach. YAF help is needed for setup, food preparation, and cleanup.
