Centering Prayer

Tuesday Centering Prayer
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer where we quiet our mind and thoughts to be in communion with God’s presence. It is an ancient form of prayer that is based on the teaching of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, “…when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door and pray to your Father in secret.” (Matthew 6:6). It is a form of Contemplative Prayer that enables us to experience God’s presence within. We trust that God’s presence is closer than breathing, closer than thinking, and closer than conciousness itself. Centering Prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. The meeting times and contact information are: Tuesdays, 3:45-5:00 p.m. Contact Anne Brewer, or Julia McShan.

Thursday Centering Prayer We are a small group of those who are new to Centering Prayer and those who have practiced it for many years. We’re open to both beginners and long-time practitioners. We devote the first half of our gathering to 20 minutes of Centering Prayer. The remaining time is devoted to discussion and reflection on a book that we are reading. However, reading the book is optional. Our main emphasis is the daily discipline of centering prayer. Contact Carol Lewis or Molly Payne-Hardin. Thursdays 5:30-6:30 p.m., in the Prayer Room across from the Business Office.
