Parish Life Ministries

Garden Ministry (“Lay Weeders”)
The Lay Weeders plan for and maintain the gardens and landscape at Christ Church. They create and enhance the spiritual nature of the gardens to celebrate and memorialize God’s glorious creation. Volunteers with a willingness to help and learn are most welcome. A love of “dirt” is desired but not necessary. We participate in the planning and maintenance of the landscape and gardens. Specific maintenance duties include planting, weeding, mulching, deadheading, trimming, and fertilizing. Planning activities include organizing special workdays and developing and ordering plant materials. Most members work on Saturdays from 9 until 11:30 am with a break for coffee, cookies and conversation. It is not required that members work every Saturday. Some members also work on other days of the week, when their schedules allow, for other activities such as watering container plants or trimming, etc. Gardening with the Lay Weeders is an opportunity to develop a greater sense of the beauty and serenity in nurturing God’s gardens. Most members feel a sense of giving and fulfillment and enjoy learning more about gardening in the Gulf Coast. Also, gardening is an excellent stretching and physical exercise activity! Contact Steve and Lana Warner, Chairs.

Dining Club
The Christ Church Dining Club provides an opportunity to meet new friends in the Parish and enjoy fellowship in a Christian atmosphere. Various dining group choices are available allowing members to choose one that is most convenient for their situation. Options include lunch in a restaurant on a weekday (because of size, this group is divided into several sub-groups) and lunch in a restaurant on Sunday. Group members determine specific times and places. Contact Jim McGill for more information.

Flyer’s Club
The Christ Church Flyer’s Club provides an opportunity to meet and enjoy fellowship and share experiences with other flyers. We welcome anyone that has soloed in an airplane and can relate to stories and experiences as a pilot. The Flyer’s Club meets every third Tuesday of the month at 11:30 am in the Cubi Restaurant (the patio area located in the Naval Aviation Museum). We welcome visitors – reservations are not required. Join us and enjoy fun, conversation, and interesting stories about flying experiences with members of the Christ Church family. Contact Bob Blackington, Chair.

Newcomers Ministry
The Newcomers committee leads the Christ Church Parish family in welcoming all newcomers. Some of our responsibilities include quarterly newcomer receptions, and coffee hour.

Meetings are held during the year to plan for large events and to develop and implement new ways to welcome our guests. Volunteers with a friendly rapport and desire to meet and greet newcomers are encouraged to join this growing ministry. The newcomers ministry offers an opportunity to welcome people new to the Gulf Coast and/or new to Christ Church. We strive to spread the mission of Christ Church in all that we do. Contact Lola Hogeman, Chair.

Sunday Morning Coffee Hour
Immediately following the 10:30 AM service, Sunday morning Coffee Hour welcomes one and all. Coffee, lemonade and cookies are served. Volunteers join in preparing for and serving the event; additional volunteers are always needed. Contact Margo Painter, chair.

Parish Life Hospitality Ministry
We want Christ Church to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere to all who come through our doors. To that end, we seek to provide hospitality in a variety of ways. The Hospitality Ministry provides opportunities for the parish family to gather for food, fellowship and worship. Those who work in this ministry help organize, set-up and prepare food and refreshments for parish breakfasts, receptions, dinners
and other special events. This is a very active ministry and involves working on one of the sub-committees as follows. If you would like to work on one of these committees, please contact the individual Chairs as shown below or Bonnie Benz, Hospitality Chair.

Breakfasts — “Come and get it. Breakfast is served” Each Sunday, five separate teams serve a hot breakfast at 9:00 a.m. for our parishioners. These teams assist parish chef Sallie McCorvey and prepare a delicious meal. Please join us for a family-style breakfast for a minimum donation.

If you would like to be a team member, call Linda Turner, Breakfast Committee Chair.

Receptions
Numerous receptions are held throughout the year to celebrate significant events in the life of the parish such as confirmation, Youth Sunday, or a special guest speaker. Those who work in this area help organize every aspect of the reception from the set-up of the room to the refreshments. Volunteers are welcome.
Please call Susan Smart, or Bradley Proctor, Co-Chairs, Receptions Committee.
