Choirs

CANTERBURY CHOIR begins its new season Thursday, August 26, 2:30 - 3:45 pm. Interested? "Contact us."

THE PARISH CHOIR exists to lead the sung worship of the people of God in the pews at Christ Church, and to make musical offerings during the liturgy, offered to God, for his glory, and for the inspiration of his people. The Parish Choir sings at the principal service every Sunday of the year and on Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve, with two services on Easter Day. The Choir rehearses weekly throughout the season, and biweekly during June, July, and August.

A good church choir is not an assembly of soloists, but a group of singers whose single focus is to join their voices in praise. The ideal choir member will have experience in choral singing (with emphasis on vocal blending) and music-reading. Other qualities that may be successfully substituted include a desire to learn, the ability to follow instruction, and the ability to work in an environment of mutual respect with a group of adults. Every rehearsal is an intense training session. The directors are constantly seeking to better the group’s offerings. Singing in the choir is a very active form of service in the parish. Members derive great satisfaction from a job well done and our choir is widely recognized for its accomplishments. Contact us – Ken Karadin

THE CANTERBURY CHOIR provides children of the parish an opportunity to participate in a vital liturgical ministry: namely the offering of choral music during times of worship. All parish children in grades 1-8 are eligible to participate in Canterbury Choir. New members are accepted during the first six weeks at the start of each semester with the fall semester typically starting in August and the spring semester starting in January. The Canterbury Choir sings in church during the 10:30 am service once a month. The choir participates in the annual Christmas pageant and they provide all of the choral music for the early Christmas Eve service. Aspiring Canterbury Choir members should have a willingness to learn how to sing properly; a desire to make new friends in a large group; an ability to show reverence while providing an important role in worship, and a positive attitude. Training is provided on a weekly basis during the school year from 2:30 to 3:45 pm every Thursday afternoon. Even though we have fun while learning to sing, the Canterbury Choir is primarily an educational experience. Contact director Treece Efird, or Mr. Karadin at the church.

CHRIST CHURCH HANDBELL RINGERS
A new musical ensemble at Christ Church, the Handbell Choir is developing its skills in preparation for participation in our worship, with this unique sounding offering of praise to God. Two groups meet each week. The first deals with basic skills, and the second works on musical literature to offer in worship. Danny Lyons, a well-known solo handbell artist, is our director. Contact Ken Karadin at the church.
