All-Parish Activities

Advent Pageant and Parish Supper, Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 4:00 pm.

We will gather for our annual Children’s Christmas Pageant, followed by a hot dog and hamburger
supper and decoration of our Christmas Tree in the Parish Hall. All are
welcome as we prepare to celebrate the Nativity of our Lord.

Christ Church Antiques Show, February 4th (Friday) through 6th (Sunday), 2011.

Preview Party, Thursday, February 4th!
The ECW’s primary fund-raising activity, the annual Antiques Show, will be held the first weekend in February in the Currin Center with luncheons in the Parish Hall. Proceeds from the show support Christ Church’s outreach to many community ministries, such as the Council on Aging’s “Meals on Wheels,” P.A.C.E. Center for Girls, United Ministries, Waterfront Rescue Mission, St. Joseph’s Clinic, Appetite for Life, Favor House, our own Episcopal Day School, and many other ministries. This is truly a team effort and a wonderful opportunity to participate and work together as we strive to contribute to organizations which further Christ Church’s mission of serving Christ in Others.

Annual Parish Picnic – May 22, 2011

At Seville Square following the 10:30 am Eucharist
We will gather in Seville Square after the
service where we will enjoy live music and good food
from the YAF . We will also encourage visits to Old Christ Church where our congregation was born. It’s OK to come to church today dressed for a picnic. In case of rain, we will gather in the Parish Hall.
(The picnic is not scheduled on Pentecost this year because Pentecost is also Mother’s Day!)

Hayneville Pilgrimage – On a Saturday in August, 2011

“One of the most memorable and richest experiences I’ve had since coming to
the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast.” That’s how one member described his
experience of the Hayneville Pilgrimage. The Hayneville Pilgrimage celebrates
the life of Jonathan Myrick Daniels (who was at VMI with Father Bob, incidentally),
known as the “Martyr of Hayneville,” as well as the lives of the other
martyrs of Alabama. Jonathan Daniels was a young Episcopal seminarian,
who had come south in response to a plea from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to register
people to vote in the late summer of 1965. He was killed by a shotgun blast
when he stepped in front of a young woman to shield her from harm. Beginning at
the Courthouse Square in Hayneville the procession moves to the town jail, where
Jonathan and others were kept; to Cash’s Store, where Jonathan was killed; and finally;
to the courtroom, where the murder trial took place, to celebrate the Holy
Eucharist (the walk is about eight blocks). Afterward lunch will be served on the
square. Contact Dick Hooper ("Contact Us") for more information.
